I'm getting old.
I turn 30 tomorrow at 0400 MST. Maybe I should call my Mom right at that moment... I've done it in the past!
Nah, she'll be happier if she gets to sleep. Lucky me, I was the easy kid and she didn't spend too much time in labor (if I recall the doctor barely had his gloves on, according to my Dad who was ready to catch me...). Number 3 tends to be like that, my youngest son was the only birth I missed because I didn't get to the hospital in time! Like father like son...
So, at 30 I'm going to be leaving the beautiful, Great State of Alaska and heading to the Midwest. Hopefully this summer with enough time to spare to sign up for college to use my GI Bill (the wonderful GWOT GI Bill!). Not sure what I'll be studying yet... Once I settle in and understand the job market I'll likely make a better informed decision (anyone who has yet to go to college needs to consider THE JOB MARKET before the degree... Trust me on this... Sorry, but an BFA in Studio Art doesn't get you a job all the time in many, many, many places... Unless you are prepared to move...). So, while I'd love to study art, and will certainly take drawing and other art courses as I'm able, its unlikely going to be my 'major'. However, I've been having a blast working with my local Volunteer Fire Department, I've done work for the State of Alaska (volunteer wise) in Disaster Preparedness through my State Defense Force, and even spent a little time getting paid for security work on a temporary basis during a forest fire locally; so I might look into an Emergency Management course. My FEMA certificates already count toward that, might as well finish the pain. After all, I love art... Why not continue to do it more for love than to put food on the table. Besides, I'm sure there is a need for good State level EM personnel, and even private sector (my preferred course of action really). Thats what happens when you spend too much time as a Public Servant, and I mean SERVANT.
